The Polish Civil Aviation Authority (ULC) has published a warning on its website about possible flight delays and cancellations at Warsaw airport due to a protest and the resignation of some flight controllers .

Since last weekend, there have been delays in take-offs and landings at the airport.

An airport spokeswoman, Anna Dermont, told PAP the situation was the result of a lack of staff in the control tower.

The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency (PAZP) said many employees were on sick leave or otherwise indisposed, and that it would take the necessary measures to ensure the flow of work and stabilize the situation.

The protest by air traffic controllers at Warsaw Chopin Airport is a reaction to the new pay system. Of 208 flight controllers working in Warsaw, 170 did not accept working conditions with lower pay and are threatening to quit in April.

Meanwhile, a new head of PAZP was appointed on March 31 and negotiations between the agency and the air traffic controllers’ union continue.
